Lingland Interpreters and Translators completes NHS Evergreen Sustainable Supplier Assessment

Lingland is pleased to have completed the NHS Evergreen Sustainable Supplier Assessment. The Assessment is a self-assessment and reporting tool and resulted in us receiving a level 2: Comprehensive net zero targets and reporting for carbon emissions. The information reported through Evergreen is supporting us to understand our alignment with NHS sustainability priorities and identify those areas in which we need to accelerate progress.

The Evergreen Assessment is one of several NHS initiatives designed to support its net zero and wider sustainability objectives. We are delighted to be supporting the NHS to achieve their net zero and sustainability ambitions, including those set out in the NHS Net Zero Supplier Roadmap.

Carbon Reduction Plan

Lingland Interpreters and Translators Ltd is committed to achieving Net Zero carbon emissions across its operations.

Our targets are to achieve Net Zero for Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2040, and Net Zero for relevant Scope 3 emissions by 2045.

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been prepared in accordance with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard and supports the UK Government’s PPN 06/21 requirements.

Baseline Year

Our baseline year is 2024.

This baseline has been established using available operational data, including job delivery methods, interpreter travel mileage, remote working practices, office working patterns, and paper usage.

Progress Against the Baseline

In 2025, Lingland recorded further progress against the 2024 baseline.

The proportion of online sessions increased from 33.3% in 2024 to 43.3% in 2025, while face-to-face jobs reduced from 3,389 to 2,115.

Total recorded interpreter mileage also fell from 177,730 miles in 2024 to 107,428 miles in 2025.

Remote Working and Office Impact

Lingland reduced office-based working hours through remote working practices.

Remote working contributed to an estimated reduction in office hours of 27% in 2024 and 60% in 2025.

For three office-based staff members, this helped reduce the environmental impact associated with office electricity use and employee commuting, based on an average commuting distance of approximately 7 miles per staff member.

Paper Reduction

Lingland also reduced the use of printed documents through increased use of digital document management and paperless processes.

Printed document use was reduced by approximately 45% in 2024 and 70% in 2025.

Carbon Reduction Measures

Lingland aims to continue reducing emissions through improved operational efficiency, lower fuel consumption, increased use of low-carbon electricity where possible, remote working practices, digital service delivery, supplier engagement, and sustainable travel practices.

Our carbon reduction projects include:

• Increased use of remote interpreting and translation services to reduce travel emissions.
• Reduction in unnecessary business travel.
• Increased use of digital document management and paperless systems.
• Energy efficiency improvements within office operations.
• Use of remote working to reduce office energy demand and employee commuting.
• Review of supplier sustainability practices where applicable.
• Monitoring and reporting of carbon emissions in accordance with the GHG Protocol.

Scope 3 Categories

Relevant Scope 3 categories may include purchased goods and services, business travel, employee commuting, energy-related activities, waste generated in operations, and transportation and distribution.

Approval

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been reviewed and approved by senior management.
